National Honor Society Procedure for Selection
|
| A
list of candidates for membership by scholastic merit is compiled and
posted on the office window and bulletin boards in all classrooms. |
| All
candidates who wish to be considered for membership must submit the required
essay to the advisor by the specified date (NOTE: any candidate not completing
this requirement will be considered as not interested in membership and
his/her name will be removed from the revised list). |
| A
revised list of candidates is submitted to each faculty member and coach
with instructions to rate the candidates with whom he/she has had contact
during the present academic year as a teacher, advisor, or coach, based
on the following: |

Leadership |

Demonstrates leadership in the classroom or organizational work, in the
workforce, or community activities. |
*
Is thoroughly dependable in any responsibility he/she accepts. |
*
Exemplifies positive qualities and attitudes which are silent influence
on others. |
*
Contributes constructive ideas to improve school life and shows iniiative
in promoting these ideas. |

Demonstrates academic initiative |

Character |
*
Exemplifies desirable qualities of personality (cheerfulness, friendliness,
neatness, poise, stability.) |
*
Demonstrates the highest standards of honesty, fairness, reliability,
self-control, and respect for others. |
*
Upholds principles of morality and ethics. |
*
Cooperates and complies with Calvert High School and classroom rule regulations. |
*
Has the respect of his/her teachers and classmates. |

Service |
| *
Volunteers dependable and well-organized assistance, and is willing to
take on difficult or inconspicuous responsibilites. |
| *
Is willing to represent the school in inter-class and inter-scholastic
competition. |
| *
Positively promotes and participates in school activities (i.e. fundraising.) |

Shows courtesy by assisting visitors, teachers, and students. |

Participates in some outside activity: church, community, family duties. |
